Hi...I have the same problem, but when I change the setting as you suggest, I
still receive the same message: File Conversion ~SALMAPP and am asked to
select a conversion, none of which show readable text. Can you suggest what
I can do? Thanks

It sounds as if you are trying to open ~$LMAPP.DOT, which is the "owner
file" for the PALMAPP.DOT add-in. No matter how you open it, it's not going
to contain any usable information except your user name. Why are you trying
to open it?

I am at a loss as to why every time I open Word 2003 to use it I receive the
message: File conversion ~SALMAPP asking me to choose the encoding that
makes this readable....and nothing does make it readable. But I have no idea
why I am receiving this message every time I try to use the program. When I
open Word 2003 I am opening to a blank page...not trying to access anything
else? Do you have any idea?

This is an orphan temporary file - remove it from the Word startup folder -
