Default Order of multiple files when opening simultaneously

When I choose a group of documents in a folder, right-click and select Open,
the files do not open in the order in which they appear in my folder. Nor do
they appear by modified date or any other order I can easily identify. What
factor determines the opening order and how do I change it to file name?

This is extremely important as we need to edit the individual documents
based on their order within the file.

I had this same problem in Word 97! I finally figured it out. When you
When you click on "Open," you will see some icons on the right side of the
area where it says to "Look in." The icon on the far righ looks like it has
a sheet of paper with a check mark on it. Click on this icon. Click on
"Sorting." Choose to sort files in order by ascending and click OK. This
should fix your problem. Good luck!

Unfortunately I do not see the "Look in" area. Once I click click Open, the
files launch. The only icon that has a piece of paper with a check mark is
labeled as Properties and has tabs for General, Security and Summary.
