Default LISTNUM field code prints unless I define it as hidden text

Hello,

The LISTNUM fieldcode prints unless I define it as hidden text. Is this
normal? I am using Word 2003.

In case you are wondering, the Field Codes check box is not selected on the
Print tab in the Options dialog box.

Thank you!

I suspect it's not actually a field code but just plain text. Did you insert
it using Insert | Field? Or did you use Ctrl+F9 to insert the field braces?
The field delimiters, although they look like braces, can't be entered from
the keyboard.

Default LISTNUM field code prints unless I define it as hidden text

Hi Suzanne,

Thank you for your speedy reply. Unfortunately, it doesn't help me. :-(

All my field codes are shaded so that I can see where they are, and this one
is definitely shaded. I didn't insert the braces manually and they are within
the shading.

Here's what it looks like in my document and this is what prints:
0.

Here's what the code looks like when I press ALT + F9 (the letter after the
first slash is an el):
{ LISTNUM \l 1 \s \0 }

Thanks in advance for any more ideas for resolving this issue!

When you have field results displayed in the document, is the field code
still displayed? That is, does it look right in Print Layout view but still
wrong in Print Preview and on the printed page?

I'm not sure that I understand your question, but whenI display the field
code, it converts to "0." in both the printed version and in Print Preview
mode. It looks right in Normal view and Print Layout view, i.e., ALT + F9
toggles properly between the field code and the result of the field code.

I just checked it in Word 2000 and it prints there too.

I just called a friend and asked her to create the same field code on her
computer. It shows in Print Preview mode on her computer. Unless it does not
print on your computer, I'm beginning to suspect that this is a bug.

Thanks :-)

Very bizarre. I can't think of any reasonable explanation, especially if it
displays correctly in Print Preview.
