Default default folder for Word 97 documents

Is there a way to make My documents the default folder for documents created
by Word 97? It seems they are going to "winword", a subdirectory under
MSOffice. The comuputer was donated to us (a church) and has Windows 98 and
Word 97 on it. Thanks for any help you can give.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | File Locations. Modify the
folder for "Documents" to whatever you want.

Thank you for the info. I tried to modify it to My Documents and it said
that Word could not find that folder. I then tried c:\mydocuments and c:\My
Documents and without the C:\ I am not sure what I'm doing wrong.

My Documents is a fiction; the actual path is C:\Documents and
Settings\profile name\My Documents. But you should be able to navigate to
the folder in the Modify dialog. Unfortunately, this navigation is not
reflected in the dialog in the "Folder name" box in recent versions of Word.
What you can do, however, is navigate to the correct folder, then use the Up
One Level arrow to go to the next highest level. Select the folder in the
window and choose Open. This will open an Explorer window in which you can
use Ctrl+C to copy the file path from the address bar and Ctrl+V to paste it
into the "Folder name" box.

I seem to remember that Windows 98 did not use the profile path for My
Documents. This came with Windows ME. It would be a plan to search for the
My Documents folder and enter its true path.

Ah, indeed so. I overlooked that. Still a figment, though.
