Converting trial Pre release Vista back to 2003 Word
Recently installed the Vista Trial version. Feb 1st it expired and I went
back to 2003 Version of Office Professional. However when opening the file made in 2007 trial it gives me an error " This is a pre release version of the compatibilility pack and can open pre release Office 2007 files only. Do you want to check for a newer version of the compatibility pack. I downloaded the 27MB new version restarted and nothing. HELP HELP I need that file opened. -- Russ |

Converting trial Pre release Vista back to 2003 Word
Hi Russell,
It's not clear how Vista plays in this (as in Office 2007 trial going back to Office 2003, is different than Vista trial going back to Windows XP), but that particular error message can come up from the compatabiliy pack if you try to open an Office 2007 Beta 2 document or a Word 2007 template (i.e. the error message they put in for those 2 conditions implies that the converter is the problem, when it is trying to say the file being opened is). Are these documents you created in a pre-release version of Office 2007 by any chance? =============== "russellnz" wrote in message ... Recently installed the Vista Trial version. Yes. I created the documents in the trial version I purchased for $13.00 as
a trial until Feb 1st 2007 at which time it abruptly ended. -- Russ "Bob Buckland ?:-)" wrote: Hi Russell, It's not clear how Vista plays in this (as in Office 2007 trial going back to Office 2003, is different than Vista trial going back to Windows XP), but that particular error message can come up from the compatabiliy pack if you try to open an Office 2007 Beta 2 document or a Word 2007 template (i.e. the error message they put in for those 2 conditions implies that the converter is the problem, when it is trying to say the file being opened is). Converting trial Pre release Vista back to 2003 Word
Hi Russ,
The 01Feb2007 date sounds like it could be either the Office 2007 Beta 2 edition, or an Office 2007 trial edition installed on the first day it was available (although MS's charge for Beta2 was only around $1+ rather than $13, at least in the U.S., and the no cost Office 2007 trial products are available from (http://trymicrosoftoffice.com) If it was created in the Office 2007 Beta2 copy and you have the original downloads to reinstall that product, you may able to then apply the Beta2 Technical Refresh patch update (search on B2TR on http://microsoft.com/downloads). B2TR expiration is 31March. Office 2007 release editions (including the trial) aren't able to handle all of the file changes made in the Word document format between Beta2 and the release version, but can handle most of the changes when saved from B2TR. If the product is still installed and in Word 2007 you use Alt,T,O,R and the version is not 12.0.4518.1014 or higher, then the Office 2007 version is a beta one. ============== "russellnz" wrote in message ...
