Default Link field inside header and footers

I'm trying to use a common file for date and subject in the footer of
multiple document. The link field is inserted into the footer, works fine
with updates. Save open again and it becomes a corrupt object, not linked or
updated from the common file.

Anyone know how to fix this or suggest a different method to accomplish
this. Tried includetext field as well, but it won't update automatically.

Also having trouble using relative ref for linked file location. Thanks.

Hi MagicJS,

To see how to implement relative paths in Word, check out the solution I've posted at:
http://www.wopr.com/index.php?showto...#entry670 027
I'm not sure that will address the whole issue, though. Have you checked the 'Update automatic links at open' option under
Tools|Options|General?

Also, if you're inserting a link to another Word document, I suspect you'll find that Word is actually creating an INCLUDETEXT field
for you.

In addition to macropod's suggestions, note that you can use a macro to
update all the fields in a document; see
