Default Word 2000 auto date updating

When I open a saved document it automatically updates the date field to the
current date. How can I stop this so it opens with the original date?

Press Alt+F9 to reveal the field code, which will be DATE or TIME. Change
this to CREATEDATE and F9 to update.
