while i'm tying in microsoft word 97 every few seconds my work is being
saved, (the little hour glass keeps popping up) I've checked in format and
options to turn off autosave, but I don't think it's the option I need, has
anyone had a problem like this? it's happened before and I forgot how I
corrected it.

Autosave usually does not save "every few seconds". That sounds more
like the spelling and grammar checkers at work. You can turn those off
in Tools | Options | Spelling & Grammar.
