Default open (.dat file) in Word

Hi

I've a file on pc that's called...(Backup.dat ) 1,1 Mb
How do i open that file in Microsoft word or excel ?

The file is file from my job and i save it on a 3.5 disk
for home working , but when i open it there are only
strange tokens on my screen
????
who can help me ?

Almost certainly neither application will open this file. You need a copy of
the software that created it - presumably some sort of backup software - to
restore the content.

Aha , thnxs ,At work we use Win NT plus Office 97 and at home
I use Win Xp service pack 2 with Words 7.0
So i need the backup program from my workstation in the factory.
Understand.
