Default How to re-show disappeared balloon comments

Word 2002/XP...

I have a large document (~7MB) with ~4000 comments shown in balloons in page
layout mode.

Word occasionally seems to think there are no "tracked changes" (it isn't
on) - and no comments... so all the balloons disappear. The problem gets
fixed into the saved file.too...

I have found three workarounds (and quitting word before reopening the file
may be a good idea)

1. Save doc as RTF, then reopen (not so handy if doc contains macros)
2. Quit Word, restart word, reopne document, Select All and from the
Formatting Toolbar choose the Highlighting too and select "No Highlight" -
comments magically reappear (but not so handy if you have highlighting you
want to keep
3. Use VBA for For Each comment, do an AnnotationEdit on the source range
(very slow for large documents).

Have no idea whether this problem affects later versions of Word (forced
comment highlighting of 2007 prevents me switching), but it occurred on both
Win XP and Vista HP.

Hope this helps someone...
