Default open new tab - not program

How do I get WORD to open new DOCs in a new tabbed window and not a whole
new instance of WORD?

Same goes for Excel.

I don't see it in the options or custom areas.

thanks

That varies a bit dependant on which version of Word & which version of
Windows - neither of which you mention.

It's not a completely new version of Word (or Excel). Which version are you
using?

Go to Word Options, Advanced and clear the option 'Show all windows in the
Task Bar'.
