Default Will the animation work if I insert an animated picture in Word?

I can insert an animated picture into Word, but the animation doesn't show
up. I would like to have the animation in the picture work when other users
view this document. Is there some way I can insert the picture to enable the
animation in Word? or is there a special file format (other than .doc) I
need to use for this purpose? Or is it not possible?

(I am using Word 2000.)

Default

Animations in .AVI format can be inserted in Word.
Animated GIFs only work when viewed in a Word
web document, either from File=Save as HTML or
File=Web Page preview.
