Word files that include custom fonts for portability of documents
I think that Microsoft Word should have a new type of file that will include
any custom fonts that are used in the document so that if the file were to be opened onto a comptuer that does not ahv ethe custom font installed on the system the font will be read from the file and implimented into the document. My idea on how to impliment this is through some sort of class, like a defined class for the font on the document, written into the file towards the end. When the custom font is called in the document, word will have the font file in memory or a temporary file and render as it will. Also give the user the choice to install the font onto the system, save the font, what have you. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. Word files that include custom fonts for portability of documents
Before you push this suggestion too hard, please understand that the feature
has been in the program for many versions already. It's called "embedding" the font, and it's controlled by the "Embed TrueType fonts" option in Tools Options Save. It doesn't require a new file type; ordinary documents can contain embedded fonts. There's a great deal more to be said about font embedding. I'll give you a starting place if you want to read about it: http://www.microsoft.com/typography/...Embedding.mspx -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit.
