Default "Applying a style turns off bold, etc." What can I do?

In MS Word help file one can find this section called "Applying a style turns
off bold, italic, or underlining." Is there something else that can be done
besides what they suggest by formatting after applying the style (in my
documents, I need to preserve the formatting of the individual words and only
apply a new look to the paragraph).

May God bless you in your help given!

Try just clicking in the paragraph (in a word that doesn't have your
formatting) so that nothing is selected. Apply your style. Unless your
direct formatting controls most of the paragraph, it will stay in place.

When you click in the ¶ you want to change, make sure that your cursor is in
a word that does not have any special formatting (italics, bold, superscript,
etc.) applied. If your cursor IS in a word that has italics, for example,
and the style you wish to apply is not italicized, that one word will lose
its italics, but any other italicized words in the ¶ will stay italicized.

I hope this helps.
