In this paragraph I can not select just a word or a sentence instead the
whole paragraph gets selected.

There must be a reason why. Is it just that one paragraph?

Most likely the whole paragraph is a field of some kind. Turning on field
shading would be a tipoff; Alt+F9 would tell the tale.
