[welshman]

How can I create sound files in 2007 word documents. I teach school and
when in school and using Word 2003 all I had to do was InsertObjectCreate
file[tab] then select Wav file. Connect a microphone and record the spoken
message using the simple record,stop, and save facilities. In Word 2007 this
facility [the wav file]appears to be absent OR I cannot find it!!!!
I thought I'd be able to find a way to do it under Insert but haven't been
able to figure it out. Thanks.

Thinsgs definitely are in different oplaces in the 07 release. The function
still appears to be available. You did not specify yoru O.S. I am using
Word07 on WIN XP. In Word07 it is listed on Insert tab Text group Object
WAV file. Then the Sound recorder opens and records the file. Admittedly the
only way I got teh sound to play again was to RC teh icon and select play.

Hi Welshman,

If you're in Windows Vista the Windows Sound recorder uses Windows Media Audio (.WMA) files rather than .WAV files.

You can add the Sound recorder to the Quick Access Toolbar from
Office Button=Word Options=Customize=All commands category
by choosing the 'Voice Comment' command.

I have windows vista, i believe the microphones are built in, i have
downloaded word pad, which i dont think i need how do i get rid of it and use
the recorder that come with vista home basiec

Adding 'voice comment' asks for a file to be inserted. I am interested in
having the recorder to start in stead. When I give my pupils (with a need of
speaking rather than writing) this document, they can click an
('answer:'+)icon starting a sound recorder making the icon linked to the
saved wma after closing. Is that possible?

Did you add the 'Voice Comment' tool to the QAT?
If you did, have you set the default sound recording device in Windows to a
source that has a microphone attached? e.g. in my system I have the default
recording device set to my web cam, which has a built-in microphone. No
valid recording device and you get an error message.

Thanks Graham. I tried the Voice Comment and Insert Voice in the QAT. A
default microphone is set in the sounds (Ctrl Panel) and working. when I
click the VC or IV up pops 'Create package' and asks for a file. Have tried
two mikes, including webcam. still doesn't work. Any other suggestions?
