Default Duplicate Envelopes

In our agency we send victim letters. I have set them up: Envelope, letter -
in one document. This has worked for years with no issues (we began with
Word 95). We have recently upgraded to Office 2007; the letters are Word
2007 documents and the database is an in-house system. The addresses for the
envelope and return address in the letter as well as other data is pulled
into the letter in Word. We then review and print the letters. The letter
displays perfectly in Word and print preview also displays it perfectly,
however when it prints it prints a blank envelope first then the addressed
envelope followed by the letter. There is no page or section break at the
beginning of the envelope and non at the end of the letter.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Default Duplicate Envelopes

If you save the letters in Word 97-2003 format, or start with a letter in
that format, rather than docx, does the problem go away?

Hope this helps.

Default Duplicate Envelopes

Our previous letters were in .dot format. We had Word 2000 and 2003
throughout the office and no issues with the envelopes. The current letters
are stored in .dotx format. Our in-house database has now been programmed to
pull from the 2007 folder. I did open one letter and save as Word 97-2003
format in the 2007 folder and then I removed the dotx version of the letter
from the 2007 folder. We still had two envelopes print: one blank and the
other with the address. The printers are not set for burst pages between
jobs.

Have you tried creating the letters under 2007 from the original .dot format
templates? I do not believe that there is anything that has changed in Word
2007 that would be causing this to happen other than something that may have
been done when you changed to dotx format.

Default Duplicate Envelopes

Originally when we began the upgrade, I created a new 2007 folder. I opened
all 1987 dot templates in Word 2007 then did a save as Word Template (dotx).
All the templates converted and are in use. It is only the letters that
produce a blank page - in this instance an envelope.

Default Duplicate Envelopes

And, my suggestion is that you go back and use the letter/envelope template
in its original .dot format. Converting .dot templates to .dotx is
completely unnecessary as .dot templates work just as well, and in your
case, maybe even better.
