Default How do I add a letter before the page number in my table of conten

I have several appendices that I have added autotext in the footer. I would
like that text to be reflected in the table of contents
Example: On the first page of Appendix A, the autotext is A- (which is
right before the page number).
The A refers to the Appendix Letter.

The following is an example of the footer for Appendix A:

Word Document
A-1

I want to include the A- in my table of contents. So it looks like the
following:

Appendix
A................................................. ...............................A-1
Appendix
B................................................. ................................B-1
Appendix
C................................................. ................................C-1

Is there any way to do this so it is automatic? I can change it manually in
the toc, but prefer to find another way. Hopefully I have explained this
properly and someone can help me. It would be much appreciated.

The letter will not be included in the TOC unless it is actually part of the
page number (that is, it is the number of a heading that you have included
using the "Include chapter number" option). See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Numbering/ChapterNumber.htm and
http://www.ShaunaKelly.com/word/numb...ppendixes.html

Default How do I add a letter before the page number in my table of co

I'm attempting to do the same thing, and the referenced articles in MVP and
ShaunaKelly are for an earlier version of Word. I am successful in making the
page numbers work for the regular chapters; i.e., I can make the page numbers
say "1-1, 1-2, 1-3,...2-1, 2-2, 2-3...3-1, 3-2, 3-3, and so on." And I can
make the page numbers work for the Appendices; i.e., I can make the pages
numbers say, "A-1, A-2, A-3, and so on." (The MVP article and the Shauna
Kelly article did help with this.) However, I have been unsuccessful in
making both the Chapter page numbers AND the Appendix page numbers work at
the same time. And, of course, the problem carries over to the TOC page
numbers. Can you help with a solution for Word 2003, 11.6568.6568 SP2?

Shauna's instructions are *not* for "an earlier version of Word" unless
you're using Word 2007, in which case I can't answer for the results (and
neither can anyone else, since it's still in beta). If you follow Shauna's
instructions correctly, they *will* work.

I'm having a similar problem with page numbering in my appendixes. My
appendix titles use Appendix Heading 1 style, but my "chapter starts with
style" option in the Page Number Format dialogue box is set to Heading 6 (per
Shauna Kelly's website). My Appendix B page numbers show up as A-1, A-2
instead of B-1. Does the appendix titles have to use Heading 6?

For this to work, Heading 6 must be the style that has the numbering for the
appendixes. If Appendix Heading 1 is just for the titles of the appendixes,
and you're using Heading 6 for Appendix A, Appendix B, etc. (with auto
numbering supplying the A, B, C), then it should work.

IOW, Heading 6 must be used for whatever paragraph has the actual heading
numbering. So it depends on whether you're using:

Appendix A [Heading 6]
This Is the Appendix Title [Appendix Heading 1]

or

Appendix A: This Is the Appendix Title [must be Heading 6]

I changed the appendix title to heading 6, then changed the style to match
