Default Hyperlink to network drive

I'm having trouble trying to use a Word document (2003) as i move it around
our office. What i want to accomplish is to send my document (called Route
Sheet) to another user and have them open it up and click on a hyperlink to
open a corresponding document that is saved on a network drive that is
accessible to both of us. I run into a problem in this way: when i tell Word
which file to link to, i point to the file on the network drive, but when the
other user opens the Route Sheet, the link has changed and is apparently
looking for a local file rather than a networked one. Because of that, Word
is unable to open the document. Has anyone else run into a problem of this
sort? Is this even a Word issue, or is there something going on with the
network drive? If so, it seems that I will need to talk more with our IT
guys...
