Default can i set up a link that to open a table when clicked & show it

is it possible to set up a link to a table which when clicked displays the
table on the same document.

Not readily available. You can try applying an otherwise unused (and
"empty") character style to the whole table. Then, with a very short
macro, you can trigger the style's font property "hidden", effectively
hiding and re-showing it again (provided you don't have hidden text
visible).

The "link" to the table could be placed in a toolbar (running the
macro), or a MACROBUTTON field, I suppose.
