Options do not stick
Tools/Options/View ---
Paragraph Marks, Tab, Optional Hyphen, and Text Boundries will not stick when checked. Has been working fine for months. Now it seems to go away after rebooting. Registry entry to change/modify? I have even resaved the Normal Template - I think. There seems to be more than one location for this file. Where should it be for Office XP on a WinXP Pro system? My customized Menu/Toolbar is working just fine. |

Options do not stick
Hi
Word will store a normal.dot in the folder identified at Tools Options File Locations User Templates. By default, that is C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates. Most problems of options not sticking are solved by deleting the Data Key as described at http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErr...ngMenusEtc.htm. When you delete that key, Word restores the default settings. However, make sure you don't have a registry "cleaner" that is "cleaning" out your Word Data key. We have had several people on this newsgroup recently using something called CCleaner, which apparently deletes your Word Data key. So the settings you make will be deleted when it deletes the Word Data key. Hope this helps. Shauna Kelly. Microsoft MVP. http://www.shaunakelly.com/word "JustUs" wrote in message ... Options do not stick
Shauna -
Thanks for the info - I use CCleaner When the defaults are restored, does it change the tool bar as well or just the items in the Options menu? Options do not stick
Hi JustUs
Thanks for the info - I use CCleaner Oh dear. Another person stung! I have no idea what CCleaner does, except what I've learned from users such as yourself. And nothing I've heard would encourage me to try it out! A couple of weeks ago I contacted the maker of CCleaner to tell them about these problems, but I have not had an acknowledgement or a reply. So I don't know just how much of Word's data key CCleaner is wiping out. Word has a Data key that contains two or three separate entries: Settings, Toolbars and ToolbarsWordMail (this last is only used if you have ever used Word as the email editor in Outlook). It may be that CCleaner is deleting the Data key, but not the Toolbars key. There is more information at What exactly does the Data Key in the Registry store? http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Custom...eySettings.htm Hope this helps. Shauna Kelly. Options do not stick
Shauna -
There are options that can be set in CCleaner. It has NOT affected the toolbar, but I wanted to be sure about the restoring of the key part of your earlier msg. I have since changed the options and all is working fine. CCleaner is a good little program, just a little bug . Thanks for the reply and solution. Blessings!!
