Underline every other table cell?
Using Word 2002 on WinXP.
Creating a Word„˘ electronic (and Printable) form. I want parts of the form to be filled in by computer but also allow printing blank form to be completed manually. After reading many posts here and some experimentation, I am almost there but Word is being stubborn in one area. I have: Created a table, inserted text and some form fields( in different table cells of course), hidden grid lines ( don't want ALL tables cell lines to print), and attempted to place a bottom border on those cells which I want a Line printed for manual input. Worked pretty well except: On a couple of table rows I have alternate cells of label text and then blank cells. When I attempt to place the bottom border on jjust teh balnk cells, Word places that underlines the label text as well as the blank cell. These cells are truly empty, there is not a form field in these cells as these cells could not be complete via computer-- manual entry only. Has anyone ran up against this issue before and found a solution?? many thanks for your ideas suggestions. |

Underline every other table cell?
If you apply the borders via Format Borders and Tables Borders tab, make
sure that "Apply to" is set to "Cell" and not to "Table" (defaults to "Table" unless you have selected one or more entire cells). If "Table" is selected, a bottom border will be applied to all cells in a row. If that is the problem, I would correct it in two operations: click in the row with the wrong borders, then select Format Borders and Tables Borders tab and remove the bottom border and click OK. Then select a cell that needs to have a bottom border, select Format Borders and Tables Borders tab again, make sure to select "Cell" in "Apply to", click the bottom border, OK. You can then click in another cell and press F4 to repeat the "apply bottom border to cell" operation. -- Regards Lene Fredborg DocTools - Denmark www.thedoctools.com Document automation - add-ins, macros and templates for Microsoft Word "JR Hester" wrote: Using Word 2002 on WinXP. Underline every other table cell?
I will certainly give that long way around a try, I was using my Borders
button on the formatting toolbar. I did get around the issue initially by simply placing a series of uinderscores in the the offending empty cells. This worked in this instance as these cells would not allow data input. These lines would always require manual fill in after the form was printed. I did experience a similar occurance in another form. I finally succeeded in placing and underline below the field and then the cell would accept the bottom border. I am going to go back and remove the field underline adn try your suggestion. Thanks again.
