Page numbers, Section Numbering, and the TOC
I want my table of contents to read
Table of Contents: Intro i Heading1 1 Heading2 3 And there are three problems: 1. When making a new section via section break, the section 2 contents begin on the next page, but the page numbering begins on the page of the section break. 2. I cannot make the intro page 'i' as the title page and the table of contents take up two pages and I can't start page numbering at -2. 3. When I go to section two and change the page numbers to restart in this section it resets the page number codes for section one even after de-linking the sections. This is a fairly common numbering scheme and it is frustrating it is so hard to accomplish!! Thank for your help! |

Page numbers, Section Numbering, and the TOC
Suzanne,
Thank you, I see the solution to each problem. 1. To delink to the next session you must be clicked on the section you want to delink. Otherwise upon choosing section break ( next page ) will make the following page, NOT page one of the new section. 2. Make the title page and the TOC section one and leave unnumbered. 3. As in (1.) above, you must ensure each section is delinked from the one above. If you have 17 sections you must delink 16 times (you cannot delink the first section) Also, once formatting the page number styles, you can then insert the new page numbers from the header footer tab (W2007) Thank you, GG123 "Suzanne S. Page numbers, Section Numbering, and the TOC
You don't need to unlink the sections just to restart numbering or change
the number format (provided the other content of the footer remains the same or is changed via a StyleRef field), but you do need to unlink if you want to change the content (or delete it entirely). So if you just have a page number in the same place on every page, you can restart numbering and even change from roman to arabic numerals without unlinking, but to omit numbering on pages other than the first in a section (for which you can use "Different first page" and leave the First Page Footer empty), you must unlink the section from the preceding (if any) and following sections. -- Suzanne S.
