Update to XP made Word slow to list documents
I upgraded a workstation from Windows 2000 to Windows XP sp2. The
domain is Windows 2000. When the user opens MS Word (Office 2003) and selects NEW and choses from "Templates on My Computer" it takes better that 60 seconds to read the list of files before it displays tabs of file folders and the files. Closing and reopening MS Word (without shutting down Windows XP) yeilds better secondary speeds (second attempt to do the same thing took 38 seconds and the thrid time 24 seconds. Why would upgrading from Windows 2000 to XP make such a difference in file read performance in MS Word? It's the same file share (network drive). -Fran- |
