Default Confirmation of Deletion

Word 2002 / Windows XP

If I select text and press the DELETE key I receive a message in the status
bar asking to me to press Y or N to confirm deletion (I also receive this if
I delete a graphic I have inserted.

Do you know how I can turn this off?? It is driving me crazy.

Thanks for your help.
