It would seem like you have clicked on the REC button at the bottom of the

This indicates that the Macro Recorder is turned on (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/UsingRecorder.htm). You should see a toolbar with a Stop button on it, which you can use to stop the recorder, or double-click REC on the status bar. It's hard to see how this could have happened inadvertently. If you double-click REC to start the recorder (you can also use Tool | Macro | Record New Macro...), you get a dialog box asking you to name the macro. If you OK, the recorder starts; if you Cancel or close the dialog with the X, the recorder is not started. After stopping the recorder, go to Tools | Macro | Macros and look for a Macro1, which will be what you have inadvertently recorded. -- Suzanne S.
