It would seem like you have clicked on the REC button at the bottom of the
screen that starts the Macro Recorder.

This indicates that the Macro Recorder is turned on (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/UsingRecorder.htm). You should see a
toolbar with a Stop button on it, which you can use to stop the recorder, or
double-click REC on the status bar.

It's hard to see how this could have happened inadvertently. If you
double-click REC to start the recorder (you can also use Tool | Macro |
Record New Macro...), you get a dialog box asking you to name the macro. If
you OK, the recorder starts; if you Cancel or close the dialog with the X,
the recorder is not started. After stopping the recorder, go to Tools |
Macro | Macros and look for a Macro1, which will be what you have
inadvertently recorded.
