Windows XP/Word 2003 SP2
I have a custom button on my toolbar for File | New, which opens up my list of templates. I have tried to use the same thing at my office where we have just had Word 2003 installed, but when I press File | New - either from the standard toolbar or my custom button, the Task Pane opens showing me a list of recently used templates and the usual offer to find templates on my PC or online. How can I avoid this, please, and just get File | New to let me choose from my list of templates.? |

How can I avoid this, please, and just get File | New to let me choose from my list of templates.? In the Tools Customize Commands list, there are three "New" commands in the File category. Don't use any of them. :-( The one with three dots brings the task pane, the one with a triangle opens a dropdown list of options, and the one with nothing after it is the "instant blank document from Normal.dot" command. Click the All Commands catgory, and find the command named FileNewDialog. That's the one to put on your toolbar. It doesn't have an icon by default, but you can copy the icon from the original New button and paste it using the right-click menu of the new New button. Then delete the original button from the toolbar, and you're all set. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |
