Default Normal.dot / endnoites in Arabic (NOT Roman) numerals

I don't understand where i am supposed to change the default setting from
Roman to Arabic numerals. Help!

Default Normal.dot / endnoites in Arabic (NOT Roman) numerals

Open your template as a document and insert an endnote. Right-click the
endnote and choose Note Options from the context menu. Change the "Number
format." Click Apply. Once you have changed the format, delete the endnote
you inserted. Save and close the template.

In Word 2007, to open the Normal template (normal.dotm), or any template in
the user templates folder, click the Trusted Templates option in the Open
dialog box.
