Extremely stupid question, but is it possible to print a report from Word
indicating word count of a document. I don't mean putting it as a header or
footer. I mean as a separate report.

You can put a NumWords field anywhere in a document. If that's not what you
meant, then perhaps JoAnn's answer will suit. Or you can check the box for
"Document properties" on the Print tab of Tools | Options, which will cause
Word to print an extra page listing document properties that I assume
include word count.
