Getting rid of blue wavy lines under text forever?
How do I get rid of the blue wavy lines under parts of my WORD 2007 text
documents once and for all? In other words, how do I disable this proofing function? I realize that these lines have something to do with what Microsoft considers grammatical, spelling or stylistic mistakes -- but I am a writer by profession, and I often write incomplete setences on purpose -- for effect, to make a point, etc. I dont need Microsoft to "help" me. I have tried everything I could think of -- disabling (unchecking) the proofing tools in "Options" etc., but the blue wavy lines under parts of the text are still there. HELP! |

I don't have Word 2007 installed, but I think someone said the wavy blue
lines were used there to indicate "contextual spelling" errors. See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/he...4671033.aspx#5 -- Suzanne S. Getting rid of blue wavy lines under text forever?
And the following is quoted from Word 2007 Help (as it was in 2003):
-------------- Mark formatting inconsistencies Select this option to mark formatting with a wavy blue underline when it is similar to, but not exactly the same as, other formatting in your documents. To use this option, you must also select the Keep track of formatting check box. -------------- Also, a search in 2003 Help for "blue wavy underline" leads to this information, whereas the same search (as well as several other permutations) in 2007 produces nothing relevant to either of the tw features. I guess one simply must be intuitive enough to divine which of the intuitive features is active when and what it is that the feature is attempting to intuit - and heaven help those who are blue/green color blind %{ -- Regards |:) Bob Jones [MVP] Office:Mac "Suzanne S. Getting rid of blue wavy lines under text forever?
thank you thank you thank you!
Just yesterday I had been very seriously considering a reinstall of Word 2003, for I could not bear the visual distraction of the blue wavy lines another day. Thanks to you, I now discover that I had been desperately trying to fix the problem via adjustments to the Proofing Tools -- and of course that did not eliminate the wavy blue lines. I had never thought it might be linked to the Formatting options. Thanks so much! "CyberTaz" wrote: If the wavy underline is actually *blue* it indicates a "formatting inconsistency". Getting rid of blue wavy lines under text forever?
Dear Suzanne, my thanks to you as well as to "CyberTaz". As it turns out,
both "Mark Formatting Inconsistencies" AND, as you suggested: "Contextual Spelling" had been enabled -- I have disabled them and am now "wave-free". In addition, I found other helpful information on the MS Website you directed me to. Many thanks. "Suzanne S.
