How can I keep WORD settings (kb customizations, etc.) as 'default
When I make 'settings' changes such as those listed below, they remain only
for the current session. The next time I use the computer, they're no longer active. What do I have to do to keep them as defaults? (This is in WORD 2000.) - kb customizations (e.g., applying a key combination to a task) - 'autocorrect' settings - 'autoformat as you type' settings Thanks. Replies appreciated. |

Hi Mike, The settings you've listed are stored in a couple of different places, so you may have to go through several steps to fix the problem. The keyboard customizations are stored in a template, according to the setting of the "Save changes in" box in the Keyboard dialog at the time you create them -- probably Normal.dot if you haven't changed it. Failure to save customizations in the template can be caused by the template file being read-only, or by corruption of the template. If it is Normal.dot, try closing Word, renaming the file to something like OldNormal.dot, and restarting Word. That will make it create a new Normal.dot, and you can see if that fixes the kb problem. The other two items you listed are stored in the registry in Word's Data key. See http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Custom...eySettings.htm for a list of what's in there, and http://www.gmayor.com/my_toolbars_are_missing.htm for a procedure to reset it (but first read the section "How to preserve your Settings preferences" in the first article). -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org |
