Default saved a blank version of existing file with same file name

I have in error saved a blank version of a file with the same name etc (I now
have a blank document with name of file which previously contained text). Is
there any way of recovering previous file?

Only if you have "Always create backup copy" enabled on the Save tab of
Tools | Options, and possibly not even then depending on how you saved the
doc.
