Default Laptop Hibrinate works, standby sometimes

Hi,
I have a Dell Latitude D600, XP SP2, McAfee 7, Linksys wireless.
Standby used to work but lately I notice that if I put my computer into
standby overnight, it starts from scratch in the morning. If I go to
standby for 20 minutes no problem. Hibernate works fine, but I would
rather not waste 2GB of space if I don't have to. I reinstalled all the
latest drivers from Dell and reserviced packed but it's still happening.
Any idea why? Or, if not, any idea how I could log or trap the events
leading up to shutdown?
thanks

This is a Word usergroup. As I know nothing about Laptops, I can't help
you.
