Default Numbering in a Table

Is it possible to create a table and have the numbering go down column 1 and
then continue in column 3? When I tried it, it numbers go across not up and
down.

Thanks,

If you were to use a single column table in a three column layout, you could
get the numbering to go down column 1, THEN COLUMN 2 and finally column 3.
If you don't want column 2 numbered, then select the cells in that column
and remove the numbering from them and column 3 will then carry on from
column 1

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I was hoping to find a way to avoid using columns and section
breaks.
