Default Equations changed into pictures

I am using WORD2002-SP3, with W2K-SP4

I am writng a document with many equations, written with the equation editor
of Word.

All of a sudden, all my equations have been transformed into "pictures",
that can of course no more be edited.

I have no idea what caused the transformation from an equ. editor object
into a picture object. What could be the reason ? Did I something wrong ?

Can it be reversed, i.e. change the pictures back to editable equations ?

Thank you for the explanation.

And WORD did it again (after I corrected the equations of course) ! The
"repaired" file contained again pictures instead of equations.

Thanks to your tip, I did not use the repaires file, but a previously saved
file instead, which saved my work. And... I sent the error report to
MICROSOFT.
