Default Word file

Hi,

I'm having issues with MS Word 2002. Everytime I open any documents, it'll
create a ghost or image of the document I just opened. When I'm done with
the document and save and exit it, the ghost image of the document still
remains on the desktop and I'm unable to delete it. Please let me know if
there's a way to resolve this. Thanks

Word creates *temporary* files, not "ghost images". Some of them are
required to be in the same folder as the document being edited -- if you
store documents on the desktop and edit them there, the temp files will also
be on the desktop. The article at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211632
explains what the temp files are for.

If you don't want to see the temp files, simply store the documents in some
other folder. Word defaults to using the My Documents folder unless you use
the Tools Options File Locations dialog to point the documents folder
somewhere else. The temp files will still be there, but you won't have to
see them unless you open the folder in Windows Explorer.

Word is supposed to delete temp files when you close the document you're
editing. If Word crashes, and sometimes for other reasons, the temp files
remain in place. See http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm
for a cleanup procedure.
