Default indexing with Word 2003 & converting to PDF

I have two things I need help with:

1. I cannot hide my index entries using the Show/Hide button in my Word 2003
file.

2. When I convert my Word 2003 file to a PDF using Adobe 7.0, the entries in
my Index are not live links.

Does anyone know how I can solve these problems?

1. By "index entries" I assume you mean XE fields? On the View tab of Tools
| Options, make sure the box for "Hidden text" is cleared.

2. Entries in an index are never live links in any version of Word (TOC
entries are).
