Default search and replace, paragraph mark

I was sent a Ms word 2003 file from publisher that has a lot of endnote
numbers that are character spacing/position/lowered by 8.5 pt

I would like to search and replace that with normal 9 point, which I can do
ok, but I also want to add in that search and replace process a new paragraph
mark (indent) before the 'normal 9 point' change

but search and replace replaces the 8.5 with the paragraph mark when I try
and does not do both changing to normal 9 point AND add the paragraph
indent.... how do I get it to do both?

Hi,

Before going to the trouble of using Find/Replace to change fonts and insert new paragraph marks, I'd suggest checking whether the
paragraphs you're concerned with have been properly formatted using a Style. If so, getting the font attributes and paragraph
spacing you're after is a simple matter of changing the Style format.

Hi, I really need to do what I indicate above. The problem is not only the
8.5 font numbers, but that those endnotes somehow are run into previous
endnotes, not sure how that happened. But it happened when they sent me the
publisher's original print file in Word , now to revise for a new edition.
These notes do not have paragraph styles that I can find.

Hi,

Unless you use a macro, I think you'll have to do the Find/Replace update in two steps - one to change the font and one to insert
the extra para mark.

As for the Style-based solution, endnotes are normally assigned the 'Endnote Text' Style. AFAIK this defaults to the 'Normal'
style's attributes, but with a 10pt font. The document's author may have:
1. updated the Style;
2. overridden the Style by hard-formatting the endnote paragraphs; or
3. applied a different Style
I still believe updating & applying the Style is the best way to go.
