Default alignment

my center, right , and left buttons are grey and they wont let me click on
them . how can i make them active.

yes I have typed text and highlighted it. It is almost as if those buttons
are turned off.

no, even when I open new docs or old ones it seems that those buttons are in
active in the program iti self
