The drop-down font menu on Word has a beginning section with the fonts that
have recently been used. I have 10 fonts on mine. I would like to delete some
of these, but nothing that I do works.

You cannot delete *some* of the MRU font list. You can turn the list off -
start and close Word - then on again to reset it.

The registry method suggested at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=199785
will work (change the Word version number to match what you have eg for Word
2003 -
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\W ord\Options )
