Default word files collapse

When I am working with more than one Word file open, switching back and forth
between them, and most often when I am restoring them from the bottom
toolbar, the files automatically close. Why? Normally Word recaptures them
but it's inconvenient and I'd like to know why.

If you have Word 2002 or 2003, then it's probably the bug in Word's
handwriting recognition feature. See

When Selecting a Document from the Windows Taskbar" for more information.

If you mean Office XP, that includes Word 2002.
