I am using office XP and when I have the drawings box ticked on the options
tab, I get a nasty black bar appearing where ever there is a drawing (clip
art etc.). Can you help? Is there somthing wrong with one of my settings?

I'm not sure to exactly which "box" you're referring, here, but chances are
updating your graphics card driver would help.
