I'm editing a document that has the same phrase at the top of only 3 pages of
a 12 page section;

Although the phrase looks like a Section header (it's grayed out like one),
when I click inside the header at the top of the page, the header is empty
and the phrase is situated below the header boundaries! Also, there's a TA
field beside the sentence. The whole thing reads as follows:

YEAR END {TA \1 "Year End" \s "Year End" \c 1}

I'm really confused now! Can you tell me what's going on?

It's quite possible to place objects "below the header boundaries" and still
have them "in the header". As a matter of fact, that's one way to create a
watermark on every page. When you enter the header, is the phrase still
"grayed out"?

Yes, the phrase is grayed out when I enter the header. How did she get it
only on those three pages of the section?

Doug Robbins was kind enough to give me an "If" field that works fine for
getting words on section headers of selected pages.

But I can't seem to get it through my head how--without the if fields--a
watermark or a phrase can appear on only 3 of the 12 section pages, along
with what appears to be a Table of Authorities type of indexing.

Any further enlightenment you can give me would be most appreciated (such as
why the TA fields next to the heading when there is not table of authorities
in the document?

I'm slightly confused here.

As you seem to understand, without being subject to some sort of condition,
the phrase would be on more than three pages of the Section if it were in a
header or footer. You say it is greyed out when you view Headers and
Footers, rather confirming that it isn't in them and, so, it nust be in the
document body.

Can you select it? And just delete it? And, if so, does it go from one page,
or all three?

I wouldn't worry about the TA - that's a default format - and a document can
have phrases marked for inclusion without needing to have a TOA anywhere in
which it is actually included.

No, I can't select the heading. Thank goodness, I'm editing other parts of
the very long document so far and keeping my fingers crossed that this
section needs no changes.
