Default Word file content has disappeared

Word 2003 on Windows XP Pro. We have a file that is approx. 100 pages, with
lots of inserted photographs. It is about 70 MB in size (due to the JPGs). A
co-worker took her laptop home and worked on this file last night with no
problems. Today at work, when she opened it up (on the same laptop), the file
content is missing. Only the first page, with no content showing is visible.
No ability to scroll to other pages. If she searches for content that she
knows is in the footer, the Find function will find the footers and show the
page numbers increasing as one would expect. But the pages and content are
"missing."

This file was saved with no problems. Word never complained when she worked
on the file last night. She's tried Open and Repair, repairing via the Help
menu, and application recovery via the Office Tools (even though nothing
crashed).

She tried changing the Desktop Properties Settings Advanced
Troubleshoot Hardware Acceleration, per a post by Jay Freedman on a
(remotely) similar problem, but it did not help.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the file back? Thanks much,
