Default deleting footers

I have blank footers that I cannot erase. I know they are there because I see
them in the print layout view. It is adding extra pages to the end of the
document. The footer box takes up an entire page. Help! Thanks.

In Word 2002 and 2003, once a footer has ever contained text, you can't get
rid of the empty paragraph. But you can set the footer margin to 0".
