Default typing to or on a PDF document

Can a PDF file be inserted to a Word document in one layer, such that one can
type to it in a different layer?
Ive received a copyright form, a .PDF document, which as such cannot be
easily edited. I am supposed to fill, sign and return the form. Just for
curiosity, can I fill the form on a computer, rather than printing the form
and then typing to it on a typewriter? If I insert the form as a graphic for
instance, then I could type on top of it, which would suit me just fine. Is
it possible and if so how, or is there another way to do this?

Insert the PDF as an object into the Word document. Superimpose textboxes
for the data you want to enter.

You can only do this with Acrobat 7 reader however - and then only for
single page forms. Consider too that it may be intended for you to hand
write the form. Some companies use hand writing analysis to evaluate the
writer of the forms and type-written forms would be rejected. Check what is
required before putting your own interpretation on it.
