Default highlight behide words, only 10% gray

I want to highlight in gray behind a half row of words, but only 5 or 10%
gray highlight not the 25% that is in the hightlight button.......anyone know
how?

Default highlight behide words, only 10% gray

Use shading instead. Select the text you want to shade, go the Format |
Borders and Shading, select the Shading tab, make sure "Apply to" is set to
"Text," and select the desired shading.

Create a character style with shading of whatever complexion you like and
apply it to the text.
