I have downloaded and installed Service Pack 3 which has not fixed the
winword.exe file, which prohibits me from getting into Microsoft Word 2000. I
tried a System Restore to the same date, but an earlier time of day, that the
problem first occurred, but that did not change anything.

I have identified a winword.exe file with a different number identifier. If
that is the problem, can I delete that file, run Word 2000 CD, and install
the original winword.exe file? Any guidance by steps would be helpful?

Hi:

Winword.exe *is* Microsoft Word.

You have not said what your "problem" is, however, I assume that it's a
crash that is being reported as an error in winword.exe?

Run any of the other Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint).
Look in the Help menu for the "Detect and Repair" option. Run that.

Be prepared for a lengthy wait: it can take 45 minutes to fix everything,
and it will ask for the CD at some point. When it has finished, start Word,
quit it, then re-apply Service Pack 3.
