Default Short Cut Control Key in Word

I've just been upgraded to Word 2003.

I use Control+C and Control+P a lot as shortcuts to copy and Paste. The past
few days when I press the Control key Word goes into Find & Replace / Go To /
Comments.
I have reviewed Tools Customize and have not gotten any relief.

Also: When text is highlighted and I press Delete I must then press Y to
delete. Whats up with this? I've never had to do this before on other Word
programs.

Well, first of all, Ctrl+P is the default keyboard shortcut for the Print
dialog; Ctrl+V pastes. The shortcuts for the other commands you mention are
Ctrl+F (Find), Ctrl+H (Replace), and Ctrl+G (GoTo). There is no built-in
shortcut for inserting a comment, so I'm not sure what you're getting there.
But if you're saying that the Ctrl key alone brings up the Find/Replace/GoTo
dialog, then either one of your other keys is sticking or you've got the
Ctrl key assigned to one of these functions.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | General | uncheck the two
boxes for WordPerfect help and navigation | OK.

Default Short Cut Control Key in Word

Sorry, I should have said Ctrl+V to Paste.
The problem is that whenever I hit Control I get weird stuff. For instance,
just now from this program (Outlook) Control poped up a Microsoft Internet
Explorer window - Getting Started.
From Word: Hitting Control activates Print Preview and enters a 5 into the
document and pops up the Word Help sidebar Assistance window. If I press
Control again the computer types 6= and moves out of Print Preview, puts the
5 or 6 into the 'Search Window' of the Assistance window.

I followed the earlier advice and unchecked the WordPerfect Navigation and
Help boxes. Only the Navigation box was checked.

I think your keyboard is headed for the scrap pile. Try swapping in a
different keyboard to see whether it behaves properly.
