Default Normal Template seems to be deleted after every session of Word.

I have made changes to my Normal Template during Word sessions only to have
the changes disappear after re-initiating a session. Is there some template
virus or other program that could be causing this? I just want to change the
font to Arial Vs Times New Roman for every session. It appears that Word is
not saving the defaults I select. Please help.

There are a number of things that could be wrong here. If you have Acrobat
7, that prevents updates to normal.dot - see
http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adob...at_toolbar.htm .

Badly written add-ins generally can be problematical.

Many ill advised company systems reset normal.dot each time you log-in.

You can force an update to normal.dot using the method suggested for Acrobat
7 above (or from the vba editor - save tool), but it will be no use if your
copy of normal.dot is re-assigned each time you log in.

See Graham Mayor's response for ideas on possible causes and fixes. I would
suggest as a workaround creating a custom document template and saving it as
a template with the settings you want. Use that template when creating new
documents. If you want, you could assign it to a button on your toolbars.
For ideas on that, see http://addbalance.com/word/templatesmenu.htm. For
saving other customizations, you can use a different global template. See
http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step by step instructions
for doing that.

Hope this helps,
